This is a quite challenging round trip in the Vosges with almost 120 km and over 2700 meters of altitude over a total of 5 passes. The route between Bitschwiller-Les-Thann and Saint-Maurice-sur-Moselle is identical to the corresponding section of the 6th stage of the Tour de France 2019. It is divided into 2 stages, the first of which starts in Cernay and leads via Vieux-Thann on a forest road to the Col du Hundsruck. In Masevaux the beautiful and lonely ascent to the Ballon d'Alsace starts. Finally, in Bussang, the ascent to the Col du Page begins. Outside the residential areas there is hardly any traffic on the single-lane road. Behind the top of the pass, the road descends only briefly to the main road, where the first part ends.
The watershed between the North Sea and the Mediterranean runs over the summit of the Ballon d'Alsace, and in the northwest lies the headwaters of the Moselle. It was the scene of the first mountain stage of the Tour de France on 10 July 1905.
