The Col de Vars leads from the Durance valley from Guillestre over the Montagne de Parpaillon into the Ubaye valley. On the wide and well developed road it goes with gradients between 8 and 10% rich of turns and bends upwards. After the first bends, the gradient lowers slightly on softly inclined meadow slopesbefore rising again to 10% behind St.-Marie-de-Vars. In the last village before the pass there is again a 12% gradient, but after that it goes on with modest rises, and even short descents to the pass. The 15 km descent with initially 10% gradient ends after a last flatter part in Les Gleizolles.
